Bath Sensing
The use of Intelligent Crust Breakers (ICBs) has been successful in the aluminum production industry. However, further improvements can be achieved by employing Parker’s Bath Sensing Modules (BSMs). Unlike traditional ICBs that sense the end of a stroke, Parker’s BSMs cause the ICB to reverse upon contact with the bath, providing a more accurate indication that there is an open hole in the crust and that alumina can be fed properly. The BSM sends a signal to the Pot Control System, indicating that the bath has been sensed.
Parker’s BSMs are designed for the harsh environments of a pot room, with the ability to operate in magnetic fields and at high temperatures. The units have proven to be 100% reliable with zero defects over a five-year period. Additionally, the modules are optimized for ease of deployment and use, featuring a “self-teach” routine that tunes the internal electronic components to suit environmental and pot conditions.
